 body for maximum results

with minimum intervention.’

Joanne is a Bowen Therapy Practitioner (Diploma with Bowtech and Bowen Training Australia and Equine Bowen) with a Degree in Human Movement and Exercise Science (BPHE, UWA) and a Cert IV in Auslan (Sign Language).

Her interest in Bowen stems from her passion for the bio-mechanics of movement and the sport of equestrian. Joanne established RideTherapy® 5 years ago which continues to provide incredible benefits for horses and people with disabilities.

Joanne’s skill set, her knowledge of functional anatomy and pathology and her extensive experience with proven patient outcomes offers you an effective, gentle, long lasting treatment to support structural alignment, healing and recovery.

Most patients come to Bowen Therapy because of musculoskeletal problems such as a bad back, sporting injuries, frozen shoulder or sore neck, but what they come away with after experiencing this therapy is a whole lot more.

The fascia surrounds every cell in the human body. When it becomes dehydrated and constricted (due to trauma, injury or disease) it affects electrical conductivity of the nerves to target areas, circulation of blood and lymph, and the ability of the joints and muscles to dissociate from other underlying structures causing them to be dragged along in the movement. This can lead to pain and stiffness often amplified somewhere else in the body as the body compensates for the original injury.

A first treatment will include an initial case taking and lasts 90 mins. The practitioner will roll their thumb or finger gently over muscles and connective tissue at specific points on the body. The session involves a series of moves followed by a period of rest allowing for the client’s body to process the moves and relax. The rest is fundamental as it allows for feed back between the brain and body’s systems and allows for "disruption to established patterns" and for "change" to happen.

What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy treats the whole body for maximum results with minimal intervention and consists of a series of strategic gentle moves over muscle, ligament, tendon and skin. These moves aim to trigger and disrupt established patterns such as “pain loops”, and stimulate water/chemical flow which in turn can activate the body’s own resources for improved function and well being. Working with the body’s fascia (simply described as the “connective” tissues) there is opportunity to interact with all of the body’s systems. This assists with the treatment of general to chronic physical symptoms and diagnosed medical conditions as well as emotional and stress related concerns.

Bowen Therapy can be utilised in conjunction with other therapies (Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Chiropractic and Naturopathic) or as a stand-alone treatment.

Bowen Therapy is safe for the whole family from newborns to the elderly, offering rapid and lasting relief from pain and discomfort.
