RELAX WITH GENTLE BREATHING

The opposite of stress is relaxation, and you can learn to relax your body with your breath.

When you experience a stress reaction – stop – and for 90 seconds practice gentle deep breathing.

  • Close your eyes.
  • Open your jaw slightly and drop your shoulders.
  • Relax your hands and gently wiggle your toes.
  • Gently inhale to the count of four through your nostrils. Hold for four. Gently exhale for four through your nostrils. Hold for four.

Become aware of what’s happening in your body as you breathe deeply and gently into your belly.

Notice anywhere you’re holding tension and consciously let it go each time you exhale. Feel the tension leave your body. Relax.
